V7 knife mod (BETA)

The knife mod is designed for one use, high speed automobile track racing. It is of little use for any other purpose.

knife is pre-set for automobile use, and includes a custom sound set. knife is stripped down feature-wise, as with the v7 Drifter mod.

The difference between the knife mod and the v7 Drifter is that the knife uses a significantly different turning system.

Steering is specially engineered only for high speed racing. It is extremely sensitive, at low "staging" speed it will always be twitchy, but it should get you to the starting line. Don't expect "normal" driving use, puttering around the neighborhood, it belongs on a track.

The knife mod is not for everybody, and some will not like it at all. Beta testers all report great track times, topping personal and track records on some circuits.

Due to extreme sensitivity of the knife steering, your build will likely need some tuning in the Steering and Skid power settings.

The knife sacrifices some engine and transmission features to assist in extra control response performance. This will be most noticeable with driving control at high speeds, especially in higher-lag situations.

The mod consists of replacements for the stock Engine, Root Settings, and Root Menu script. Your other main root scripts, Root Tools and Root Sit, are the same ones as the stock setups.

You can swap out your main root prim scripts for the knife versions, or inject the knife setup from the Mechanic HUD.

The knife mod does not have the following features and settings: Flight Mode, Automatic Transmission, Cruise Control, Leveler, Mouselook, Wheelie Up/Down, Banking, Turn Bonus, VelMult. If you include a v7 Driver HUD with a distributed vehicle, you will want to remove those specific functions from the HUD, as the vehicle will not respond to controls issued to those features.

The v7 knife only uses the "Old School" E/C/PageUp/PageDown shifting style, which you will need to use anyhow to access the ShiftSlide.

All other features and add-on systems will function as normal as they do not affect the engine performance.

The knife comes preloaded (in settings) with a special soundset created specifically for this mod. The knife soundset is included as an additional ACS soundpack in case you wish to use it in another setup.

As with any setup, the default settings will need to be customized for best results, as the size and mass of every individual build is unique.

Because the knife menu has space open for the unused features, the Record and Return position functions are added to the knife menu in their place.

Upgrading from earlier ACS versions:

  • v7 knife is locked to the "Old School" E/C/PageUp/PageDown shifting style.
  • Mods can now be injected direct from the Mechanic HUD. The correct scripts for the mod are automatically injected. Injecting over an existing v7 set will replace those root scripts with the chosen setup.

How to lean/bank in knife on a motorcycle (advanced builders only!)

This is a bit of extra work to set up, and does require the ability to make your own animations.

The forces used to steer the knife are radically different than normal steering, and actually leaning a bike over would force the vehicle to steer into the sky or ground. That is why normal ACS banking is removed, and knife is recommended for cars.

You CAN use knife in a motorcycle, but if you want to lean/bank you have to do it using a special and somewhat complex setup.

How it works is by using TurnSystem to lean ALL prims on your bike except for the root. The root stays level, and the forces applied to steer the bike turn on a level plane along with the root. There is also the 24 link limitation of TurnSystem, so your motorcycle can be no more than 25 individual links.

During TurnSystem setup, you will need to touch select the entire bike except for the root, lean the whole thing over including the root, then twist just the root back to level posiion before hitting record for Left and Right.

Now when you turn, the root stays level but the rest of the bike leans.

But that's not all yet, there's one more important step: The bike appears to lean, but the driver does not.

The next part of the challenge is leaning your rider - since the rider stays level with the root, the only way to make the animation lean when the bike leans is to render a custom left and right turning animation of your normal ride animation that are in the correct position/rotation. If you use Anypose or U-Poser to make your own animations, then you can probably lean your bike over in-world and render a set that will line up correctly.
